How do you keep your dog from barking at night?

You family and your dog are a pack. Packs hang out together. Your dog does not understand why she can not be with her pack at night. My theory is that a dog can not protect you in your home if is locked out in the back yard. I allow my 4 large dogs to sleep in the house at night. They lay on the floor on their doggy blankets.
